✨ How I monetise being a musician & generate thousands of dollars $$ of passive income

Build wealth whilst you sleep

Alrighty let’s take a break from talking about community building and talk about building wealth whilst you sleep. Sounds fun right?

If you've ever dreamed of turning your creative talents into a source of passive income, this article is for you. I’m sharing the 8 steps I took to build a steady stream of income through my music business, Paz Sounds.

From bulk recording sessions to nature field recordings, licensing deals, and even live gigs, I’ve outlined how each strategy contributes to financial freedom while fuelling my creativity. Whether you're a fellow musician or simply seeking inspiration for monetising your skills, this guide offers actionable insights to get started.

So let’s dive in shall we? We shall.

8 steps I took to build passive income through my music business ‘Paz Sounds’

1. 🎵 Signed with a Label – Signing with Soothe Sounds & GYROstream was my first step. Having a team in my corner allowed me to focus on creating, while they handle distribution and playlist pitching.

2. 🎙️ Bulk Record – Every January, I bulk record 3-5 albums worth of classical guitar & piano music. It's the quietest time at The Community Collective (my full-time business) during Aussie summer, giving me headspace to create. Consistency is key!

3. 🌿 Nature Track Field Recordings – Every February, I get outside and record 3 albums worth of nature sounds with my Zoom recorder. These have been incredibly popular for meditation and relaxation playlists.

4. 📅 Strategic Releases – Rather than dropping all the music at once, I schedule weekly releases throughout the year to keep momentum going.

5. 💰 Weekly Royalties – Thanks to platforms like Spotify and 180 other music aggregator platforms, I see regular royalty payments from streams. A steady trickle of income each week after the bulk recording is done.

6. 💿 Vinyl Sales – I set up vinyls for sale through Daisy Records. They handle all orders & shipping. I simply get $$ deposited when they sell. See them here.

7. 🎧 Licensing – Orders come through for licensing existing tracks for creative projects e.g. podcast intros (thanks Uluna 💙), film scores, tv ads. This provides ongoing income with no additional creative output. Listen to a podcast licensing project here.

8. 🎸 Live Gigs – This is the "not-so-passive-income-but-very-fulfilling" work of performing live e.g. weddings, live acoustic Sundays down the coast or live classical guitar sound healing at yoga studios. These fill my cup & keep inspiration flowing for the next bulk recording sessions.

And there you have it!

I then log into GYROstream, withdraw earnings, and invest it into shares through Raiz Invest to ensure it's not just sitting there.

It's key to make the $$ work even harder for you e.g. in shares and not in a bank.

And there you have it 💫

My aim in sharing this is to hopefully inspire those who have a creative skill and can monetise it to build passive wealth.

Because if I can help at least one person move towards financial freedom, then that's a life worth living.
